How it works

Get into that thrill of the chase!

Finding a treasure

1
Open the map
The map shows every active treasure in your area. Filter by category — books, trinkets, or business promos. Each marker is something real, hidden somewhere nearby right now.
2
Tap a marker
You look at the listing: a title, a short description, and a blurred photo if there is one. This DOES NOT reveal the location or is tracked in your snoops. The hint is locked. You decide whether this one is worth going after.
3
Start snooping
Tap the button. The cryptic hint is revealed. The photo unblurs. You now know roughly where to look — but working out exactly where is up to you. Each seeker gets five free snoop actions per month.
4
Go find it
The best part! Grab a friend or go on the adventure alone! Use the pin to get close, the hint to get exact. When you find it, it is yours to keep. It's very important you mark it found. And if you can't seem to find it, don't forget to mark it not found so the future seekers know it's still there.
5
Keep it or pass it on
The item is yours. Keep it, re-hide it somewhere new and continue the chain. If you like the hiding spot, hide something of your own. This is how things travel through a city.

Hiding a treasure

1
Find something worth hiding
A book you loved. A trinket with a story. A handwritten note. A business voucher. Anything physical, interesting, and small enough to tuck somewhere discreet.
2
Hide it somewhere real
Choose a spot that is accessible but not obvious. Make it findable by someone paying attention - not invisible to everyone. Remember to be creative.
3
Fill out information
Add a photo of the item but not the place it's hidden. Add a catchy title or just straight up say what the item is (useful for books!). THE DESCRIPTION IS NOT THE HINT. Everyone can see the description, so just write extra info like: "I wrapped it in a blue plastic bag for protection" or a funny story behid it!
4
The hint!
Look at what landmarks you have for referance. A cafe? A statue? A weird tree? Use them in your hint, but don't give it away completely. You can be as creative or as basic as you want. But remember a good hint makes the hunt - a lazy one doesn't give you that thrill.
5
Post it on the map
Zoom in on the map and drop the pin around the area you hid it. Aaaand post! It goes live immediately. You can document the journey and post it on your socials!

Common questions

 Is it free to use?
Yes. Creating an account is free. Hiding treasures is free. You get five snoop actions per month on the free plan - enough to try several hunts. A paid Pro plan with unlimited snoops is coming soon, when I decide the app itself is good enough and worth it.
What if the item is gone when I get there?
Report it as missing in the app. If three separate people report the same listing as missing, it is automatically removed from the map. The hider is not in the wrong, anyone could have accidentally found it, it just means it should have been hidden better :)
Do I need to create an account?
You can browse the map without an account. To start seeking and reveal the hint you need to sign in. It takes a few seconds with Google.
 Which cities are live?
In Passing works anywhere in the world, but the map is only as good as the people using it. We are currently seeding Zagreb. If your city has nothing yet, hide something first. Others will follow.
What categories are there?
Books, trinkets, and promo items. Books are self-explanatory. Trinkets are anything small and interesting — keychains, jewelry, literaly anything cool. Promo listings are from businesses, they hide freebies" But that doesn't mean you can't hide a gift card or something, you just cant put it in the promos category
